Visioning and Consensus - Gothenburg

Given the long-term opportunities of waterfront regeneration, the process begins with a vision of what is possible and what could be achieved over ten, twenty or even thirty years. This vision is a key first step to formulating more specific strategies and operational objectives for various parts of the redeveloped waterfront.

Gothenburg assessed how the long-term agenda or vision for the waterfront development evolves, who has a role in it, how it relates to the wider vision for the city as a whole, how it relates to the cultural heritage of existing and new residents and how is it implemented over time. The project team tested a method entitled Ôthe Visioning ProcessÕ to facilitate the redevelopment of the Östra Kvillebäcken area for mixed use which used 'focus groups' and 'parallel urban analysis' dialogue.
