Waterfront and the city region - Edinburgh

Achieving a positive relationship between the redevelopment waterfront and the overall development objectives for the region and the city is a key early task in regeneration. Without attention to this there is a risk that the benefit stream of economic development will not be maximised and that the waterfront will not be fully integrated into the urban fabric of the city.

Edinburgh compared and evaluated alternative approaches to the all important linkage between waterfront, city and region including a review of planning strategies and processes to ensure a coherent and systematic approach; use of community planning to integrate old and new communities; an over-arching vison and strategic partnership; and the development of a boardwalk to integrate the new communities.
