Heriot Watt University
Heriot Watt University is based in Edinburgh which has international recognition for its teaching and research in specialist areas, with a reputation for leading-edge practical research and is one of the top UK industries for business and industry.
The staff who worked on the WCP are part of the University's School of the built environment. The school has a reputation for policy orientated research, which complements its well established professional education role.
The school is currently the UK contact point for EPSON (European Spatial Planninf Observatory Framework) and was the lead academic with the DEMOS project (also led by The City of Edinburgh Council). Recent research projects include exploloring the links between INTERREG, the European Spatial Development Perspective (ESDP) and ESPON for the UK Government and Polycentric Scoping Study for the North Sea Secretariat.
Heriot Watt University led on the 'Action Research Model' theme and also worked with the three UK partners (Edinburgh, Gateshead and Hull) on their themes. The other 6 cities involved in the project also worked with their own academic partner.
